The Valley of Clarée

Secret paradise in the Hautes - Alpes

It is the valley upstream from "Briançonnais" bordering with Savoy and Italy.
The valley is dominated by innumerable smaller valleys where one can find a multitude of lakes.

Chapel Saint-Hippolyte

The Chapel of Saint-Hippolyte , at the crossroads with the road to "Col de l'Echelle", marks the entry into the Névache plain.

Névache

Névache covers an area of 190 m², making it one of the largest communes of France.

The highest point is "Roche Bernaude", 3222 m, which dominates the "Vallée Etroite".

The Névache territory covers the upstream part of the Clarée Valley.

Savoy and the communes of Valloire, Valmeinier, Orelle and Modane are located in the north.

In the east, "Vallée Etroite" and "Vallon des Acles" border Italy.
In the south, it is joined with "Val des Prés" with which it shares the heart of the "Clarée" valley, but also has a short common border with "Montgenèvre" upstream of "Vallon de l'Opon".

The "Clarée"

The "Clarée", the river whose source is at 2400 m altitude at "Lac de la Clarée", also called "Mère de l'eau", from old Celtic superstitions. Its water could well be of Savoyard origin, coming from the infiltration underneath the water of "Lac Rond" and "Grand Ban", on the other side of the pass.
